What can't you take on a cruise? Here's a list (and specific line if only one lines bans an item) of banned items on cruise ships.
- Illegal drugs (Prescriptions must be in original container and prescribed to the passenger). Even items that are prescribed may be banned, check with your line before traveling.
- No weapons. This includes guns, daggers, bows, brass knuckles. mace, pepper spray, a bat, knives (including pocket knives) and toy weapons.
- Anything with a heating element or open flame including candles, incense, hot plates, coffee makers, irons, heating pads, electric blankets and mug warmers. Matches and simple lighters are ok, but some specialty lighters will be confiscated.
- Flares, fireworks and firecrackers.
- Anything with wheels, wheeled shoes, hoverboards, Segway's, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, scooters, bicycles, etc. Items for personal mobility including wheel chairs, motorized scooters and strollers are ok, but can be confiscated if used irresponsibly.
- HAM radios, handcuffs, laser pointers, any type of laser.
- Walkie-Talkies of all sizes (Norwegian Cruise Line).
- Pool floats, inner tubes, pool noodles, beach balls and other inflatable items.
- Surfboards, canoes and kayaks.
- Drones and other flying vehicles including balloons and kites. (Carnival and Royal Caribbean allow certain kinds of drones but only while in port.
- Home made food off all kinds are banned. Only food that is prepackages and sealed are allowed to be brought on board.
- No hard liquor or beer. Wine, champagne and soft drinks are allowed, but in limited quantities.
- Animals. Certain service animals can be brought with you, but it depends on the cruise line and animal. Check with your line before traveling.
